Apple has made its biggest move into the smart home in years. At its “Welcome Home” launch on October 13, the company introduced HomeView, its first smart home display, along with a new Apple TV 4K and a second-generation HomePod mini. It also announced a line of smart home accessories built with partners LG and Schneider Electric.

The common thread is Siri AI, Apple’s upgraded voice assistant, which the company is now putting at the center of the home.

“Apple HomeView is designed to be shared by everyone in the home yet feel completely personal to each user,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, according to Tom’s Guide.

Apple HomeView: A Hub for the Whole Family

HomeView is a $299 smart display with a 7-inch square screen. It’s built to sit on a kitchen counter or hang on a wall, and it acts as a control center for the home.

Its standout feature is personalization. HomeView can recognize up to six household members using its camera and show each person their own home screen, apps and content, according to Tom’s Guide. That’s a big shift for Apple, whose products are usually designed around a single user.

Key features include:

  • A18 chip with support for Siri AI
  • 12MP Center Stage camera and a four-microphone array for FaceTime calls
  • Smart home controls, plus Apple’s News, Music, Podcasts and Intercom apps
  • Kitchen tools such as guided recipes and hands-free timers
  • A display that dims lower than any previous Apple screen, down to 0.3 nits, so it won’t light up a dark bedroom

HomeView doesn’t have its own App Store. Instead, it can run some third-party apps from a paired iPhone or iPad, MacRumors reported. Some AI features also require an iPhone or iPad.

The countertop version comes in silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. A wall-mounted version, available in space gray or silver, requires a separate mount from Schneider Home that costs $59.95 to $129.95 depending on the power option. ADT also offers professional installation.

HomeView is available to pre-order now and launches on November 13. It won’t be sold in the European Union at launch.

The New Apple TV 4K: Faster, Smarter and More Expensive

The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K costs $299 for the 128GB model, a significant jump from the previous version. Apple says the new A19 chip makes it about 50% faster.

What’s new:

  • Hands-free Siri AI thanks to far-field microphones, so you don’t need the remote to talk to it
  • Wi-Fi 7 for faster wireless connections
  • Surround sound with up to four HomePod speakers, up from two
  • A redesigned Siri Remote with a built-in speaker, Find My support and backward compatibility, sold separately for $59

The new Apple TV is also available to pre-order and launches November 13. Owners of older Apple TV 4K models aren’t left out completely: Siri AI is coming as a beta to the second-generation Apple TV 4K and later, according to Tom’s Guide.

Not everyone is impressed. Some early reactions online criticized the 60fps cap and lack of audio passthrough on a $299 streaming box.

HomePod Mini 2: Color, Light and Better Sound

The HomePod mini 2 costs $149, up from the original model’s $99 price. It runs on Apple’s S10 chip and comes in five colors: pink, green, blue, white and midnight.

Its most eye-catching feature is “Sound Glow,” a light on top that pulses to music and picks up colors from album artwork. Two HomePod minis can work as a stereo pair, and up to four can serve as surround sound speakers with the new Apple TV.

The speaker also works as a home hub and can listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, sending alerts to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch. Apple notes this shouldn’t be relied on in emergencies.

There’s one catch: Siri AI is coming to HomePod mini 2 in a future software update, not at launch, according to Apple. When it arrives, it will be able to recognize up to six household members by voice if they have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.

HomePod mini 2 is available to pre-order now and arrives in stores on October 30.

The Apple Home Collection

Apple also announced a set of accessories made with LG and Schneider Electric, including:

  • LG Smart Deadbolt Lock: $349
  • LG Indoor Cam: $199
  • LG Outdoor Cam: $299, or $399 with a floodlight
  • LG Video Doorbell: $249
  • LG and Schneider Home smart thermostats: $199 each

Apple says these products begin arriving in December, with some coming in early 2027.

Why It Matters

Apple has lagged behind Amazon and Google in the smart home for years. With HomeView, it finally has a direct rival to Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub, plus a family of accessories to fill out the home.

Analysts see the timing as strategic. Apple is “putting Siri in the room before Google and Amazon lock in those households,” Mohit Agrawal, research director at Counterpoint Research, told Tom’s Guide.

The big question is price. At $299 each, HomeView and the new Apple TV cost more than many competing devices, and the HomePod mini is now $50 more than before. Apple is betting that Siri AI, privacy features and tight integration with the iPhone will be worth the premium.
