Rivian has officially started delivering its new R2 electric SUV to customers. Customer deliveries began on June 9, 2026, starting with the launch trim priced near $58,000.

A More Accessible Rivian
The R2 is a significant step for Rivian as a company. While the brand built its reputation with the premium R1S and R1T, those vehicles were priced beyond the reach of most buyers. The R2 is designed to change that.
Rivian is rolling out the R2 in three trims. The R2 Performance, the first available, is priced at $57,990. It delivers 656 horsepower, an EPA-estimated range of 330 miles, and a 0-to-60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. The R2 Premium, priced at $53,990, follows in late 2026. A Standard model arrives in 2027 starting at $48,490.
The R2 Performance with the Launch Package also includes lifetime access to Rivian’s Autonomy+ hands-free driving system, a tow package rated at 4,400 pounds, and a special Rivian Green key fob. After the launch period, Autonomy+ will cost $49.99 per month or $2,500 as a one-time purchase.
The R2 is a compact electric SUV. It measures 185.9 inches long and 66.9 inches tall, putting it in line with competing compact crossovers. Ground clearance stands at 9.6 inches, with a 25-degree approach angle and a 26-degree departure angle for light off-road capability.
Cargo space reaches up to 90.1 cubic feet in total, with 28.7 cubic feet available behind the rear seats. The interior comes in three color options: Coastal Cloud Signature, Black Crater Signature, and Black Crater.
Production and Delivery Plans
Rivian is targeting between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 deliveries in 2026 as part of a broader annual goal of 62,000 to 67,000 vehicles. The company expects to sell around 5,000 R2 units this year in California alone.
Buyers do not pick up the vehicle at the factory. Each R2 is shipped to the nearest Rivian Service and Demo Center for a walkthrough before handover. Demo drives at select Rivian Spaces are expected to begin around July.
The R2 puts Rivian in direct competition with models like the Tesla Model Y and Chevrolet Blazer EV. For buyers who wanted the Rivian experience without the R1 price tag, the R2 is the answer they have been waiting for. The real test for Rivian now is whether it can produce and deliver these vehicles at the volume the market demands — and that is where its main advantage will be decided.
